Tree of Life Chapel | Braga

It is a private chapel, you can still visit it – every Friday from 5pm to 6pm. The place is inside the St. Peter and St. Paul Conciliar Seminary in Braga – it is built entirely of wood – its simplicity hides the complexity of its conception and construction – 20 tons of wood were used – no nails or hinges – everything was pieced together.

The work of art was designed by Cerejeira Fontes Architects, with the collaboration of the sculptor Asbjörn Andresen. The very few, but important chapel props, were made by painter Ilda David, as well as some artisans from Barcelos. Through the wooden beams light and shadows offer an unforgettable effect – the place becomes unique.

The whole place is rather special from its concept to how it is used – architects say that the easiest thing to build is a church and the hardest too!
